Missouri Legislative Subscription Service In anticipation of hearings scheduled for the Fall, the Missouri Legislature has instructed the state's regulators to form committees that are to review the laws that govern funeral homes and cemeteries. The State Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors has formed its review committee for the purpose of formulating recommendations for Chapter 436 reform. Four meeting dates have been scheduled for the review committee during the month of July. The Office of Endowed Care will form a similar committee for meetings to be held in August for recommendations to revise Chapter 214. Hearings before the Legislature’s Joint Committee on Preneed Funeral Contracts will begin either the last week of August, or the first of September. It is unknown how many hearings will be conducted before the Joint Committee. The situation that faces the Missouri death care industry is serious, and will change the way preneed is sold and administered. It will be important that consumers, funeral directors, cemeterians, fiduciaries and vendors contribute to the discussions that will mold the future of preneed. However, it may be impractical for interested parties to participate in the scheduled State Board meetings, the Joint Committee legislative hearings, industry briefings and legislative drafting sessions. PRC and Stalter Legal Services have served a variety of clients, including death care consolidators, independently owned funeral homes (single and multiple locations), crematories, cemeteries, national banks, trust companies, insurance companies and consumers. Providing objective analysis is essential to our clientele, and PRC is offering following legislative subscription service to those with an interest in Missouri’s efforts to reform its death care laws:
